The Overblow Nuthouse

The Overblow Nuthouse is a fun, quirky and challenging little song that I composed a number of years ago, originally to use as a warm up exercise before my gigs. This crazy tune goes through six different keys (positions) all within a few measures. This will definitely strengthen your overblowing (also called overbending) and help to assimilate them into your playing for any style of music. The ability to overblow holes 4,5 and 6 is a pre-requisite for this tune. If you don’t yet know how to overblow or not even sure what an overblow is, check out my video lesson “The Complete Guide To Overblowing”. This lesson includes a 25 minute video, complete tablature, five playalong tracks at different tempos and a complete chord chart of the arrangement. I am using a harmonica in the key of “A” for the lesson.

Slipped Disc (swing harmonica) with Melody and two variations

Here’s a great old Benny Goodman classic arranged for the diatonic harmonica in 12th position. If you have yet to explore 12th position on the harmonica, this is a fun one to start with. While it’s a bit challenging, it’s really not as hard as it sounds. The melody of this tune is made up of a number of arpeggios associated with 12th position. The lesson includes tablature for the melody along with two variations of the A section. Also included is a sheet diagramming all of the arpeggios to warm up with.  Three practice rhythm tracks at varying tempos are also included. Bending, but no overblowing is required. We are using a Bb harmonica for this forty minute lesson.

St.James Infirmary Blues with Melody/Solos in Four Positions

If you’ve ever wanted to expand your harmonica horizons and venture out into some new harmonica positions, this lesson is a fun and easy way to get you started. While focusing on the classic “St.james Infirmary Blues”, this lesson goes through the melody and a solo for each of four harmonica positions (2nd,3rd,4th and 5th position). To first give you a taste of and warm up in each position, we go through the blues scale in each related position. The melody and the solo is the same in each position which really gives you a great feel of each positions strengths and unique flavor.

This lesson comes complete with tablature for each position ( blues scale, melody and solo) and also two excellent play-a-long tracks at different tempos to practice along with.

The lesson is 38 minutes in length.
